Neutrogena Hydro Boost Capsule In Serum | Alpha Omega Shweta

If you are into skincare, chances are you already have heard about hyaluronic acid and its wonders. But you would also know how hard it is to find a good product containing HA for all your hydration needs.

I have tried everything from the medicated Hyalugel (which, unfortunately, did nothing for me) to the uber-expensive SkinCeuticals Hydrating B5 Gel (which, I am grateful for being gifted with). Trying to find my soft spot with efficacy, overall ingredients list, and price points, I have come to find a few that I can easily rely upon.

Is Neutrogena Hydro Boost Capsule in Serum one of those products? Read on to know.

About My Skin:

I have combination-type facial skin. But since I started using Tretinoin, I have been looking for ways to keep away the infamous tretinoin-induced dryness. I have had some failures and some successes along the way with my regular moisturizers and serums.

But I soon realized that I also need proper hydration with moisturization since I live in an arid climate. And there’s no harm in keeping your skin well hydrated since it looks much softer and younger than it is.

Apart from using a hydrating toner, and regularly using a facial mist, I am always up for layering my skin with more hydrating and moisturizing products now.

About The Ingredients:

The three key ingredients of Neutrogena Hydro Boost Capsule in Serum are hyaluronic acid, vitamin E capsules, and glycerine.

Both hyaluronic acid and glycerine are hygroscopic compounds – they hold in the water and moisture, and are great for keeping the skin well hydrated. While glycerine can hold water up to its own weight, hyaluronic acid can hold up to 1000 times its weight within skin layers. Both the products, however, can do little on their own. You need to apply them to damp skin to actually benefit from them. And that’s why a toner or a facial mist holds its own importance in a skincare routine. Also, it was surprising to see that hyaluronic acid, which is pitched to be the highlight of the Hydro Boost range, is mentioned in the middle of the ingredients list. But, I guess, a little goes a long way here.

Vitamin E which comes in a capsulated form in this serum acts as an antioxidant. Since the formulation contains the ingredient in a capsulated form, it is preserved till the time you pump out the product, when it breaks down and turns into luminescent pearl-like particles, making it easier to be absorbed in the skin.

However, my favorite and hidden star ingredient of this product is Niacinamide (i.e. vitamin B3), which is known to improve the skin texture. The serum also contains citric acid, Panthenol (i.e. vitamin B5), and other skin conditioning agents in minor quantities.

About The Experience:

The serum comes in a translucent blue plastic packaging with a screw-top lid and a pump dispenser. The pump dispenser ensures that the capsules are freshly activated for each use as they grind it into tiny particles for better absorption. The packaging in itself is quite sturdy and travel-friendly but is not recyclable.

The serum has a very lightweight and clear gel-like texture with freshly activated white particles from the capsules. It also has a distinct aquatic fragrance, which though subtle, can bother some people. Personally, I wish Neutrogena would launch a fragrance-free version of this product.

The capsule in serum is also promoted as a booster – you can use it as a standalone product or mix it up with your choice of serum or moisturizer for added benefits of hydration and instant glow-up. And here’s the thing – for me, the product gives significantly better results in terms of inducing glow rather than hydration.

I use two-three pumps of this in my morning routine to gloss it all over my face and neck (Important Reminder: Don’t forget your neck, nape, and décolletage in your skincare routine.) and as a standalone product, it always gives me a sticky, tacky after-effect. However, if I put only a pump of it along with my Vitamin C serum or my regular moisturizer, it settles in quite easily. Used this way, it also makes my skin feel super soft, glowy, and smooth. I haven’t used it along with makeup yet, but owing to its skin conditioning ingredients, it’s well worth using as a primer as well.

But take note, folks – the glow up! Oh boy, the glow up! I guess it’s mainly due to the capsule-turned-into-particles, but this product is amazing to give you a naturally lit, glowing-from-within look.

The Verdict:

Give it a spin!

But not particularly for the stated purpose of hydration. Not as a standalone product at least. Use it as a booster or a primer. Use it for the added benefits, along with your current serum and moisturizer. Use it for niacinamide – for me, that’s a better pitching ingredient for this product than hyaluronic acid. Use it for the glow!

Is it a must-have product? Definitely no! Specifically, for a hyaluronic acid product, I find it to be just above the average, considering both the efficacy and price points. In a similar price range, I have had better results with L’Oréal Hydra Fresh Anti-Ox Double Essence. And for a somewhat higher price, you can get multiple options (more on them later). This, however, doesn’t discredit the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Capsule in Serum entirely. It sure does a good job at making the skin texture immediately feel better. And if you use it as a booster, it can last for a long time and be more cost-effective.

How Do You Use Neutrogena Hydro Boost Capsule In Serum?

Neutrogena hydro boost capsules contain a concentrated serum that can help to hydrate and nourish the skin. Here are the steps to use it:

  1. Begin with a clean face. Wash your face with a gentle cleanser and pat dry with a clean towel.
  2. Pump the serum-in-capsule two-three times in your palms to get an adequate amount.
  3. Gently crush the capsules by rubbing them between your palms.
  4. Gently massage the serum onto your face and neck, using upward and outward motions.
  5. Allow the serum to absorb into your skin for a few minutes before applying any other skincare products.
  6. Use the hydro-boost once or twice a day, depending on your skin’s needs.

Note that you should always patch-test new skincare products before using them on your entire face. If you experience any irritation or allergic reactions, discontinue use immediately.

What Does The Neutrogena Hydro Boost Capsule In Serum Do?

The Neutrogena Hydro Boost Capsule in Serum is designed to provide intense hydration to the skin. The serum contains a concentrated blend of hydrating ingredients, including hyaluronic acid, which is known for its ability to hold up to 1000 times its weight in water.

When applied to the skin, the serum helps to replenish and lock in moisture, leaving the skin feeling soft, smooth, and supple. It can also help to improve the skin’s overall texture and appearance, by reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles caused by dehydration.

The Hydro Boost capsules are formulated to be gentle and suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin. They can be used as a weekly treatment to help boost the skin’s hydration levels, or as needed to address dryness or dehydration.

When Should I Use Neutrogena Hydro Boost Capsule In Serum?

The Neutrogena Hydro Boost Capsule in Serum is intended to be used once or twice a day as a part of your daily skincare routine. You can apply it after cleansing and toning your face, but before applying moisturizer. This will help to provide an extra boost of hydration to your skin and enhance the effectiveness of your moisturizer.

If you prefer, you can also use the Hydro Boost Capsule in Serum once or twice a week as a treatment to help hydrate and nourish your skin. Apply it to your face after cleansing and toning, and leave it on for a few minutes to allow the serum to fully absorb into your skin. You can then follow up with your regular moisturizer.

Always patch-test new skincare products before using them on your entire face, and discontinue use if you experience any irritation or allergic reactions.
